By the early 1990s the number of people being diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime had risen from one in four to one in three. It has been increasing slowly ever since and in 2010 was four in ten for persons (1 for 2.5).
Risk of cancer increases with age.Children and young people are less affected by it.
Less than one per cent of all cancers in the UK occur in children (aged 0-14).
Less than one per cent of all cancers in the UK occur in the teenagers and young adults (aged 15-24).
